Rhinos facing worst danger in Kaziranga National Park

Not only the agricultural sector and the small scale industry of India but also the saga of wildlife conservation in the nation is under a big threat! What is more of all these the Kaziranga National Park in Assam and a UNESCO World Heritage Site for its unicorn (one horn) Asiatic Rhinoceros is reeling under the menace of extinction. It has come to the knowledge from the governmental records that the concept of rhino poaching is mounting with the passing of years.

It should be taken into consideration that this year only and till Feb 06, there have been the gruseoms killing of five rhinos. In the recent days, as an addition to the horrific incident, a young rhino calf was succumbed to the poachers trap merely for horn. To the reeords of the government itself only in the year 2007 not less than, if not more, 21 rhinos were killed and of them 14 were killed within the national park itself. This indicates that the innocent wild animals have become vulnerable to the greed of human beings, and if this goes unabated within a short time the whole family of Indian rhinos will be extincted.

Now who are responsible for all these? Apart form the professional pohares the concerned administration is also equally responsible. But it is strking at every time whenever there is any such macabre incident the authority tries to justify its helplessness in the way of citing short-staff. But this allegation questions the essence of entire functionality of the wildlife conservation in India.

Again, it has been found that that the local population is always ready to lend a hand which has never been accepted by the offcials of the conserved forests. This has made the villagers allege that a certain setion of the governmental department of forests is busy in helping poachers and to accept handsome amounts of money.

For all these reasons it is necessary to strengthen forest staff and also to involve loals for saving wild animals from the grip of utmost danger. But it seems that the government is more interested to retain power than to concentrate on this issue.

This sheer carelessness is becoming the greatest threat to wild life. Only the partiipation of any commited NGO and the local population can save the situation.
