UN selects three Indian organizations for outstanding performance

Nowadays in many spheres of life, especially in the saga of societal development, a number of Indian organizations are doing commendable jobs. It is true that in the realm of India there is indeed a host of problems but it is worthwhile to mention that a number of NGOs have also come up in the recent years and are working magnificently.

In this regard, in the recent days, three Indian organizations along with 22 others have been selected by the United Nations from the length and breadth of the globe and are going to receive the prestigious Red Ribbon Awards. It is to be noted that these three organizations have been selected on the basis of their exceptional roles in the saga of community leadership and also for waging a stiff struggle against the pernicious influence of HIV/AIDS. These three organizations are People Like Us (PLUS), Sanghamitra and Sankalp Rehabilitation Trust.

Apart from this, from the Asia Pacific zone seven other organizations were selected for their notable performances. They include National Federation of Women Living with HIV/AIDS of Nepal, Empower Foundation and Social Action for Women of Thailand and Yavsan Kesehatan Bali of Indonesia.

Now, as far as the Red Ribbon Awards are concerned, these esteemed awards are given every two years by the UN Development Programme and the Joint UN Programme on HIV/AIDS. What is more the winners were picked out from 550 nominations that were submitted by 140 countries. This announcement happened only on the very yesterday and were found to correspond with high-ranking General Assembly meeting on HIV/AIDS.

However, to the consideration of Jeffrey Malley, the Director of UNDP's HIV/AIDS Practice, there were indeed a lot of organizations, which by means of their efficaciousness in both community leadership and resistance against HIV/AIDS earned strong attractions. He said,  "However, most of them are unheard and unsung. The Red Ribbon Award is a way to recognize and honour them."
